Unity Church of Fairfax Completes Construction of Green Roof (5/1/08)
Rick Hartley, long time member of Unity Church of Fairfax and treasurer of EcoStewards Alliance, saw an opportunity for his church to continue their support of sustainable landscaping and watershed protection by installing a green roof on one of church building that needed a roof replacement. LANDS and WATERS partnered with the church to implement a storm water management plan that includes a green roof, vegetation of a dry pond, and expansion of existing sustainable landscape areas. Rick Hartley is the projects manager, LANDS and WATERS has received grants from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation ($30,000) and Fairfax Water Authority ($1,600) to assist in this project. The members of Unity of Fairfax Church have supported the project with generous individual donations of over $44,000. LANDS and WATERS congratulates Rick Hartley, and the members of his church for their continued stewardship of our lands and waters.
