Plant Rescue! - The next plant
rescue is scheduled for Sunday, August 17th 2008.

The construction of the Hot Lanes will impact both sides of the beltway from Old Dominion Dr. to the Springfield interchange and all islands in this area. Surprisingly, these areas are filled with a wide variety of native plants (Solomon Seal, Pinxter plant, Viburnum, Blueberry, to name a few). Regretfully, all will be lost - all but those we are able to rescue. Since beginning the rescue hundreds of native plants have been dug up by volunteers and distributed to schools, community native plant gardens, citizens native gardens, and the Virginia Native Plant propagation garden. Over 100 volunteers have signed up to assist in the rescue of these plants. LANDS and WATERS has been joined by the Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, Virginia Native Plant Society, Earth Sangha, and others.
